MAC Hosts First Annual Research Consortium Conference

The four colleges in the North Philippine Union Conference territory, namely, Manila Adventist College (MAC),

Naga View Adventist College (NVAC), Northeast Luzon Adventist College (NELAC), and Northern Luzon Adventist College (NLAC), convened through their representatives to form officially the Adventist Colleges Research Association (ACRA) on September 20, 2017 at Pasay Adventist Church Multi-purpose Hall. Manila Adventist College hosted the first Annual Research Consortium Conference of ACRA with the theme “Reforming Research through Cooperative Learning” which was participated by 254 guests, college administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Fely Marilyn E. Lorenzo, chair of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Committee on Nursing Education delivered the keynote address, highlighting her commendation to the member colleges for launching the research consortium and her encouragement to the conference participants from various disciplines to pursue collaborative research in the field of public health.

Several studies on different areas of discipline were presented. In the field of allied health, Dr. Eleanor C. Castillo, NELAC President; Ms. Syvel V. Natural, MAC Radiologic Technology alumna; Mr. Neal Sevrenz C. Gabin, MAC Physical Therapy alumnus; Ms. Xenita Delle B. Gregorio, MAC Nursing alumna; and Dr. Evelyn S. Alcoriza, MAC College of Allied Health Dean, shared their findings.

Dr. Basilio D. Balayong, NVAC Dean of Academic Affairs; Dr. Marvin Nonoy B. Campit, NLAC School of Teacher Education Dean; and Dr. Nestor C. Rilloma, MAC Dean of Academic Affairs, discussed their research on the areas of education, social sciences and religious studies, respectively.

From the business discipline, the presenters were Dr. Benedict D. David, Pamatasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Graduate School of Business Program Director; Mr. Ralph Edward V. Tingin, University of Sto. Tomas Senior High School teacher; and Ryandyl G. Abacan and Femy F. Dela Cruz, MAC Accountancy students.

In an interview, the ACRA Project Manager and coordinator of the first research conference, Mrs. Mercy Joy C. Rivera conveyed, “This is actually a good exposure to them (students). We help the students to be better professionals and citizens of the country. This is a way wherein they could share their knowledge and expertise and give updates on development issues.” The whole day event was formally closed with a recap by Dr. Wealthy Estrada, the Vice President for School Administration of MAC, and the second research consortium conference was announced to be hosted by NELAC on September 19, 2018.

The Research Consortium Agreement was signed by the respective Academic deans and research directors of the four-member colleges. ACRA also elected its first set of officers for the academic years 2017-2019 as follows:
