Family Ministries has been making vital contributions to strengthening families in and out of the Seventh-day Adventist Church around the world for 100 years. Thus, the Philippine Tri-Union Family Ministries Directors—Letecia Pagunsan (Central), Delba de Chavez, (North), and Danita Caderma, (South) orchestrated the Centennial Celebration of the Adventist Family Ministries which was held at the Apo View Hotel in Davao City on March 22-24, 2019.
In attendance were leaders and members representing the Adventist Church from the three administrative territories in the North Philippines, Central Philippines and the South Philippines numbering to a total of 345 registered participants and close to a hundred church members from the nearby churches who joined the worship service.
With the theme, “Enriching Lives and Relationships Throughout Generations,” the celebration led the participants to reflect on God’s leading of the Family Ministries in the past to the present and generate a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the bountiful blessings upon individual families and church family, alike. It aimed to strengthen unity and foster the spirit of oneness in mission among Seventh-day Adventist Church family and inculcated in each individual family and church family the hope for a future together in heaven.
Learning sessions for the delegates were presented by guest speakers from the General Conference and the Southern-Asia Pacific Division. Pr. Willie and Mrs. Elaine Oliver, Family Ministries leaders of the worldwide Adventist Church, shared The 3 C’s of a Healthy Family. In his sermon during the Hour of Worship, Pr. Oliver asked a thought- provoking question, “What Do You Need from Jesus Today?” From the church headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region: Keynote Message - Pr. Samuel Saw, President; Steps to Deepen the Intimacy in Your Marriage - Pr. Rudy Baloyo, Executive Secretary; Blending in Love - Dr. Max W. Langi, Treasurer; Commitment Message - Dr. Orathai Saw, Family Ministries director.
Former Union directors of the Family Ministries who have served the department for 10 years and above were awarded plaques of recognition: Miriam Andres (NPUC, 1990-2007; SSD, 2008 - 2015); Glenda Catane (CPUC, 2000-2010); Pleny Camagay (SPUC 1995-2005); Shirley Aguinaldo (SPUC 2005- 2015).
The event concluded with a cultural presentation and a commitment service, making everyone excited to continue to Reach Families for Jesus!
